Objective / Rules
- Complete the grid so that every row and column contains each number exactly once.
- Rule 1 = if there is a symbol, the numbers are neighbours.
- Rule 2 = if there is NOT a symbol, the numbers are NOT neighbours.
- The symbols indicate which squares are numeric neighbours that differ by 1, e.g. 1
2, 3
4, 2
1.
Read the help page on Daily Neighbours for the rules, a more detailed explanation, and a walkthrough.
Notes
Keyboard Options
- If you are using a device without a physical keyboard, the on-screen keyboard is numeric, and 0 = auto-pencil marks (which can be disabled). If you prefer to use the default, non-numeric keyboard, you can select the option below the puzzle, and 0 ≠ auto-pencil marks.
- 'add / remove' - allows you to add / remove characters, entering the same character again will remove it (by removing all duplicates), and the contents are sorted.
Pencil Marks
- What is a pencil mark? Pencil marks can help you keep track of your own thinking, simply enter more than one digit / letter into each square, just like you might do if you were using pen and paper.
- The size of the digits / letters is smaller when there is more than one digit / letter in a square.
- A square might contain more pencil mark digits / letters than can be shown.
Usage (if supported by your device)
- a or 0 = auto-pencil marks (or click 'pencil')
- CTRL + arrows = move around the grid
- SHIFT + # = highlight all squares with that number as a pencil mark
- SHIFT + 0 = clear all highlights
- Clicking a symbol will change its colour, helping you to remember that you've dealt with it.
- 'squares with' highlights all squares with that number as a pencil mark.
Checking
- The system automatically checks whether symbols and not symbols are being followed for neighbouring single numbers, and marks them in red if the rules are not being followed, but doesn't check whether the numbers themselves are correct.
- Once you have started the puzzle, if you click 'check' the system will check for incorrect squares.
- If 'show mistakes when checking' is ticked / checked they will be marked in red.
- There are two types of error checked for:
a single number that isn't the same as the answer
multiple numbers that don't contain the answer number
Uniqueness
- This puzzle has exactly one correct answer.
- No guesses are ever required.
- Double-check alternative answers carefully, and then recheck the rules.
